Torsten is involved in various youth leadership coaching and mentoring initiatives, which include pro-bono leadership coaching workshops for senior scholars from local schools. He has also accompanied senior scholars on the annual Glenwood Karoo Challenge, an 18-day endurance challenge, as life coach and as part of the safety team.
Torsten is a long-standing volunteer for the National Sea Rescue Institute. His roles included being a coxswain (skipper) and rescue swimmer, and being the Regional Rescue Officer for Air Sea Rescue (ASR) operations. He regularly educates scholars and local community members in sea safety. He facilitates joint training with local life guards, sharing knowledge and experience, and in the process ensuring a strong, collaborative rescue response. Torsten feels blessed and called to make a real difference to people in dire need in our seas.
